gCalWall
Your Google Calendar + Your Wallpaper = A useful lock screen!
Version 1.4 was submitted to Apple and has been approved. The Full version and the lite version are now nearly identical. The Lite version contains ad support and does not include a “use last” button.
gCalWall was designed with simplicity in mind. The app itself is extremely easy to use. Pick your favorite image from your library (or take a new picture on the iPhone). Then once you’ve picked a text color and hit the save button the app goes to Google and pulls down your next 5 calendar events. gCalWall joins the events and the image together, and saves to the image library so you can use the picture on the lock screen. No more turn on, swipe, scroll back three pages, click on calendar, wait while it launches, and then hit the today button just to see your schedule. 7 clicks becomes one.
Simple concept – but one which provides enormous benefit all in a small, easy to use package. To make things even simpler you can select the “Use Last” button to re-use the last image and text color – so creating a new wallpaper is literally a two click process!
Limitations:
- Unfortunately I cannot set your wallpaper automatically. BELIEVE ME – THERE’S NOTHING I WOULD LOVE TO DO MORE! Apple has not allowed that level of system control in the SDK. I’ve already received feedback on this… Of all the things I WANT to add to the application and cannot this is number one!
- Text Size and positioning is static right now. (Version 1.1 included new text colors and text positioning. Sizes are still being looked into).
- You MUST use Google Calendar (and have an internet connection). I cannot (again due the the limitations of the SDK) pull information directly from the calendar on the device. If you don’t use Google Calendar (why not?) this application will not work for you! This application was designed with you in mind, so please feel free to contact us with any suggestions you have.
Troubleshooting:
In case you get an alert that Google is requiring a Captcha response – The easiest way to resolve this at the moment is to go to google.com/calendar on your iPhone/iPod touch and enter in the captcha response there. Once you’ve entered it correctly gCalWall will work normally. The captcha requirement is something Google enforces when too many bad attempts have been made on an account and is not anything I have control over.

There is also a Lite Version available so you can try before you buy!

I’ve seen my fair share of snow growing up in northern Michigan. The sun was shining today, but there is a good chance we’ll have snow on the ground by the end of the week. My favorite…
